Families: Sending Your Child to Camp

Three girls

How Do I Apply?
Applying is easy. Please visit our How to Apply page to get started!

Why Does Camp Matter?

Camp is an opportunity for your kids to unplug, meet new people, and discover aspects of themselves they didn’t know were there. Going to summer camp is not just a fun way to spend your summer. Kids that go to summer camp experience REAL benefits that improve their lives overall. These include:

  • Increased self esteem
  • Increased emotional health
  • Improved physical health
  • Improved academic performance
  • Better professional success later in life
  • Greater appreciation for nature
How Can Washtenaw Camp Placement Help?

WCP exists to eliminate the barriers that keep kids from experiencing the transformation they can experience at summer camp. We do this by:

  • Finding a placement for your child at one of our seven YMCA Partner Camps
  • Covering all tuition costs
  • Providing support with paperwork and transportation
  • Holding a Camper Orientation event to prepare the campers for the summer
  • Providing needed equipment such as sleeping bags, bug spray, etc.
  • Being available year-round to provide support.
Where Am I Sending My Child?

If you partner with WCP, your child will be attending a 1- or 2-week sleepaway summer camp at one of our 7 YMCA partner camps. The camps we work with are all fully-licensed and well-established camps who have sterling reputations, good food, GREAT, joyful, supportive staff, and health facilities. They are dispersed all throughout our beautiful state of Michigan. You can learn more about our Partner Camps HERE.

What Will My Kid Do at Camp?

So much! In addition to just being part of an active and joyful community in a beautiful natural setting, making new friends, seeing the stars, and singing around a campfire, our partner camps provide a rich selection of activities that are available to their campers. Your children are encouraged to challenge themselves, but every activity is entirely by choice. They vary from camp to camp, but can include:

  • Live or go to school in Washtenaw County, Michigan.
  • Would otherwise not be able to attend camp without our support.
