Washtenaw Camp Placement (WCP) was established in 1962 to provide camperships to children who would not otherwise be able to attend sleepaway summer camp. More than 10,000 camperships have been awarded to date!
We hope that you will consider referring students who would benefit from a summer camp experience. A campership is defined as one or two weeks of expense-paid resident summer camp, donated camping gear, and transportation to and from camp. WCP partners with six different camps located in Michigan. More information about the camps can be found on the Partner Camps page.
We welcome referrals from schools and agencies all across the county for children who would benefit from camp, but do not have the funds to attend on their own.
Applications are accepted providing the child goes to school or is a resident of Washtenaw County, will be entering grade 5 or above in the fall to age 16, and the referrer believes that the child isa good candidate for sleepaway summer camp.
If we receive more applications then open campership spots we will start a waitlist.
To apply for a campership the following two forms MUST be completed. A child will not be considered for a campership without both forms. All information that is shared will be confidential.
- Part A, Parent/Guardian Form – This form must be filled out by a parent or guardian of the child for the child to be considered for a campership.
- Part B, Referral Form This form must be completed by a teacher, counselor or social worker who is currently working with the child and has a relationship with the child separate from the parents. This is an important step in the campership application process because it gives Washtenaw Camp Placement an unbiased opinion about whether or not a child will be successful at sleepaway summer camp. Our goal is to ensure that all children who are sent to camp though our program will have a phenomenal time and life changing experience.
