How Your Support Helps
How Does Your Support Help?
Washtenaw Camp Placement connects children and youth with less access to opportunity to sleepaway summer camp. We do this because camp matters, and we can only do this with your support. 100% of our funding comes from individuals and funders in our community.
Why Does Camp Matter?
Just one week away at summer camp can change a child’s life. Donating to WCP – supporting a child to have this experience – is an extremely efficient way to be of benefit to your community. Among the many demonstrated benefits to a child are that camp:
Breaks the Cycle of Summer Learning Loss
Builds Confidence and Independence
Provides Exposure to New Experiences
Fosters Social-Emotional Growth
Supports Mental Health and Wellbeing
Creates a Sense of Belonging
Provides Role Models and Mentorship
Breaks Isolation
Builds Lifelong Memories and Self-Worth
Levels the Playing Field
The kids we send to camp are all kids who would otherwise not have access to this experience. And the transformative experiences they have affect not just their own lives, but the lives of the people around them, and ultimately their entire community. Just from going to camp for a week!
Why Give to Washtenaw Camp Placement Instead of a General Camp Scholarship Fund?
What is unique about WCP is that we do not only provide camp scholarships. We form deep partnerships in our community to position ourselves as part of an entire network of support. We are committed to putting the children and youth we serve in the best possible position to have a positive experience that changes their life for the better. We do this by:
- Partnering with local school districts and community organizations to identify children that would benefit most from our services.
- Providing families with support around coordination, paperwork, transportation, and acquiring needed items like sleeping bags.
- Engage in active support, communication, and problem solving with our families camp partners year-round.
No other organization supports children in this way to maximize the value that a camp scholarship can bring to a kid, a family, and a community.
Who Are Our Campers?
Our campers are great kids referred to us by a teacher or a counselor who would stand to benefit greatly from unplugging and discovering themselves at camp.

Where Do They Go to Camp?
WCP campers attend a 1- or 2-week sleepaway summer camp at one of our 7 YMCA partner camps. The camps we work with are all fully-licensed and well-established camps with joyful, supportive cultures, an abundance of rich activities, and health facilities. They are dispersed all throughout our beautiful state of Michigan. Learn more about our partner camps.
At What Level Should I Give?
Anything you can contribute makes a difference! As a point of reference, it costs WCP $500-$2,000 to send a child to camp over the summer. Demand for camperships exceeds supply, so the more you contribute, the more kids we can send. You can support us by:
- Visiting the Donate Now page on our website
- Sending a check to Washtenaw Camp Placement, 3135 South State St, Suite 350-D, Ann Arbor, MI 48108
- Leaving a legacy for Washtenaw Camp Placement in your estate
- Encouraging others to support us!
